Homemade Deep Conditioner…avocado, banana, coconut milk and honey

So, a few weeks ago I tried this avocado, banana and honey deep conditioner that I found on youtube.

Here’s the recipe, which I tweaked accordingly as I made it:

1/2 of a banana

1 whole avocado

3 tablespoons of honey

1 tbsp olive oil

1 tbsp mix of rosemary, lavender, castor and jojoba oil

Coconut milk (without the water enough to make the mixture into a light creamy consistency)

2 tbsp Moroccan argan oil deep conditioner

2 tbsp full fat mayonnaise

Basically, I started blending the avocado  and  the banana, honey and all the oils first and the coconut in after. I just used a regular  blender.

I was pretty generous in the amount of this conditioner I applied to my hair, I applied it to dry hair. I then placed a plastic cap over my head and let the conditioner sit on my hair and scalp for about 2 hours.

I found this conditioner to be pretty awesome. My hair felt clean and soft afterwards. I’d recommend it. And it’s all natural!

potato for my roots…

Who would have thought that potatoes can be used for more than just eating? certainly not me; if anyone tries this please let me know how it goes with hair growth…

Potato is one of the vegetables that are easily available in the kitchen. From now, never throw the water in which you have boiled the potatoes. Let it cool, and rinse your hair with it to encourage new hair growthWith potatoes you can also make hair mask. Extract juice from three large sized potatoes and mix it with an egg yolk and one teaspoon of honey and a little water. Apply this mixture to slightly damp hair and leave it in for about 30 minutes before rinsing it out with warm water. This effective home remedy for faster hair growth can give you results within a month.

banana for my roots…

I did not know bananas are good for hair; I am trying this next week when i deep condition my hair…

Banana TreatmentBananas are rich in natural oils and vitamins that help to restore hair’s natural elasticity- which will prevent breakage and split ends. Bananas, when used as a deep conditioning treatment, will also soften, restore shine… and control dandruff.

You’ll need: 1 banana (peeled), 1 egg, 3 tablespoons milk, 5 tablespoons olive oil (Be sure to apply to freshly shampooed hair).
Mix all the ingredients in a blender. Apply the mixture to your hair- from root to end. Let soak into your hair for about 15- 30 minutes. Rinse out with shampoo/conditioner and style as usual.

avocado for my roots…

Dry, damaged hair can benefit from treatments containing avocado. Avocados contain beneficial levels of Vitamins A, D and E and oils shown to provide hydration to hair. Masks sold in stores can be costly, but you can make your own avocado mask at home with ingredients that you may already have in your kitchen. An avocado mask can be used once or twice a month for deep conditioning, depending on how damaged your hair is.

Step 1: Slice the avocado in half with a sharp knife, working around the tough seed in the middle. Pull the two halves apart. Pry the seed out with a fork or butter knife. Discard.

Step 2: Score the avocado flesh with a knife. Invert the tough outer skin, forcing the scored flesh out into a stainless steel bowl. You may need to use your fingers or a fork to help separate the flesh from the peel, but the scoring will make the chunks come away from the peel easily.

Step 3: Mash the avocado into a smooth, guacamole-like texture with a fork or potato masher.

Step 4: Add 1 tbsp. lemon juice and 1 tsp. sea salt or honey to the avocado. Stir well. If the honey you want to use has crystallized, either set the jar in a bowl of hot water or microwave it briefly to liquefy the honey so that it mixes more easily.

Step 5: Add one egg yolk or 1 tbsp. aloe gel if you desire. You can also add any other hair-nourishing ingredients, such as rosemary extract, at this time.

Step 6: Combine the ingredients thoroughly until they form a thick, regular paste. Use directly from the bowl if possible. Apply to moist hair, leave in for up to 30 minutes and then rinse. You can also store the mixture in a tightly covered, opaque airtight container, in the refrigerator, until ready for use. If the avocado paste looks or smells strange when you retrieve it, you have waited too long and should mix up a fresh batch. If it does not look edible, do not put it in your hair.

Eggs – are rich in protein, which helps to make the hair follicle stronger (thus less split ends). Eggs also smoothes the hair, has thickening agents, and adds body and shine to hair.

Mayonnaise – adds moisture and shine to the hair.

Honey – helps soothe itchy scalp and stops hair loss.

Olive oil – helps to tame frizzy hair, relieves hair damage, and moisturizes (especially in winter!)

¼ cup olive oil

2 eggs (shoulder length hair, 1 egg if hair is shorter)

3 tbsp honey

½ cup mayonnaise

Mix the conditioner, olive oil, honey, and mayo until blended. Add eggs. Whip until frothy and smooth. Separate hair into four sections.
